Why Jesus & Mimi?

“You and your Jesus…”

I can still hear her saying those words.

“You and your Jesus are like this…” 🤞🏼

That simple remark eventually became the inspiration behind Jesus & Mimi.

Years ago, we were celebrating at my niece’s baby shower. We were gathered in the garden, having a wonderful time together, playing all the usual baby shower games—Baby Bingo, guessing who was who from baby photographs, and enjoying finger foods and drinks.

As the afternoon went on, our conversation turned toward faith and how Jesus answers prayers when we sincerely seek Him. During that conversation, someone made the comment:

“Yeah, well, you and your Jesus…”

The remark was directed at me because everyone knew I was a Christian and that I would not always go along with the things of the world.

I had made the decision to follow Jesus at a very young age and was baptized when I was fourteen years old at Capitol Johan Maasbach Wereldzending in The Hague, the Netherlands.

Many members of my family, then and even now, do not fully understand just how important Jesus is to me. Yet that day I realized something very profound:

Whether people supported me or not, it would always be me and Jesus.

Or rather…

Jesus & Mimi.

Wherever I go and whatever I do, I want my life to reflect Him.

As this blog continues, you will read more about my journey with Jesus, and even about the seasons when I drifted away from Him for a little while. My prayer is that my story will encourage you to see yourself as unique and precious because God has a purpose and a plan for every one of us, regardless of the detours we may take along the way.

I often think of life as a train journey.

We are all travelling toward a destination. Along the route there are many stations where we can choose to get off. Sometimes we step off at places we were never meant to stay. We become distracted by what we find there. We build lives, relationships, and plans in places that were only meant to be temporary stops.

Often, we are impatient. We do not want to wait for God’s timing. We want to do things our own way.

But even when we step off at the wrong station, God’s grace remains.

When we recognize our mistake, we can climb back onto the train.

God does not abandon us.

He forgives us.

He guides us.

And somehow, through His mercy, He still works all things together for our good.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

— Romans 8:28

God created us with free will. We are not robots programmed to obey every command automatically.

Adam and Eve had everything they could possibly need in the Garden of Eden, yet they still chose disobedience. Their story reminds us that every human being has the ability to choose.

Thankfully, God’s grace is greater than our failures.

When we recognize our errors and turn back to Him, He forgives us and continues leading us toward the purpose He had for us all along.

Are we all preachers, teachers, healers, apostles, or evangelists?

No.

But every believer is called to be a disciple and to make disciples.

We are all called to bring the Good News wherever God has placed us—our neighbourhoods, streets, schools, workplaces, hospitals, and communities.

We are called to tell others about the love of God, who sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins, our transgressions, our iniquities, and even our sicknesses.

And then came another miracle.

God sent His Holy Spirit to live within us.

God with us.

God in us.

Every day of our lives.

He is always with us—to love us, teach us, guide us, strengthen us, and never leave us.

One of my favourite promises is found in Jeremiah:

“For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome. Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed you. Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me as a vital necessity and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”

That promise is at the heart of Jesus & Mimi.

This blog is simply the story of one ordinary woman walking with an extraordinary Saviour.

I am still learning.

Still growing.

Still making mistakes.

Still discovering the goodness of God.
