Beautiful Words… But an Even More Beautiful Foundation

When Good Reflections Point Us Back to God’s Word

Sometimes I come across a thought that makes me stop scrolling.

Recently, I came across several reflections by Christian writer Brandon Robinson that were beautifully expressed. They weren’t loud or argumentative. They simply invited me to look at everyday life through the eyes of faith.

One line especially stayed with me:

“The ordinary does not disappear. It deepens.”

Another said:

“The safest place on earth is not where suffering cannot reach you. It is where Christ cannot leave you.”

And another:

“Peace begins the moment we step down from the throne we were never meant to occupy.”

Those are beautiful thoughts.

But as I read them, I found myself asking an important question.

Why do they sound so true?

The answer is simple.

Because they echo the truths that God has already spoken.

Following Jesus Doesn’t Make Life Smaller

Some people imagine that following Jesus means giving up joy, adventure, or beauty.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Jesus Himself said:

“I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).” John 10:10 (AMPC)

When we belong to Christ, life doesn’t become smaller.

It becomes richer.

A sunrise becomes a reminder of God’s faithfulness.

A cup of coffee becomes a quiet moment of gratitude.

Laughter around the dinner table becomes a glimpse of the joy our Father delights to give His children.

The ordinary doesn’t disappear.

It deepens because we begin to see the Giver behind every good gift.

We Never Know What Someone Is Carrying

One reflection was based on 2 Kings 6:30, where the king wore royal robes on the outside but sackcloth underneath.

No one knew his sorrow until his robe was torn.

How true that is of people today.

Some wear confidence over fear.

Some wear patience over exhaustion.

Some wear smiles over heartbreak.

It reminded me why Paul wrote:

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted…” Ephesians 4:32

How quickly we judge what we can see.

Yet only God sees what lies beneath the surface.

May we be quicker to show kindness than criticism.

The Safest Place

One sentence deeply touched me:

“The safest place on earth is not where suffering cannot reach you. It is where Christ cannot leave you.”

Jesus never promised that His followers would never face storms.

He promised He would be with us in them.

God says:

“I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support.” Hebrews 13:5 (AMPC)

Our refuge is not the absence of suffering.

Our refuge is the presence of Christ.

Stepping Down From the Throne

Perhaps my favourite reflection was this:

“Peace begins the moment we step down from the throne we were never meant to occupy.”

How often have we quietly thought,

“If I were God, I would have done things differently.”

Without realizing it, we place our own understanding above His wisdom.

But Solomon reminds us:

“Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.” Proverbs 3:5–6 (AMPC)

Peace comes when we stop trying to manage the universe and trust the One who never loses control.

Numbering Our Days

Another reflection was inspired by Moses’ prayer:

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12

When we remember that our days are a gift, our priorities begin to change.

We forgive more quickly.

We love more intentionally.

We stop postponing obedience.

We spend less time chasing temporary things and more time investing in eternal ones.

One Thought I Would Add

These reflections are beautifully written, and I thank God for writers who encourage people to think about Him.

But I would add one important thought.

Beautiful words are at their very best when they lead us back to God’s Word.

A well-written reflection can stir our emotions.

God’s Word transforms our hearts.

The most lasting devotional writing doesn’t simply inspire us—it anchors us in Scripture.

That is why I love beginning with ordinary moments in life: a seed, a cloud, a waiting room, a family meal, or even a cup of coffee. Those everyday experiences become beautiful illustrations, but they are never the destination.

They are signposts pointing us to Jesus.

Because while human words may encourage us for a moment,

God’s Word equips us for a lifetime.

As the apostle Paul wrote:

“Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, and for training in righteousness…” 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (AMPC)

May every beautiful thought we read, every moving testimony we hear, and every ordinary moment we experience draw us back to the One whose Word never changes.

For in the end, the greatest words we will ever read are not ours, but His.
