The Perspective

There is a question many sincere believers carry, often unspoken: will I truly be alright in the end? We know about grace, we know the scriptures, and yet something gnaws at us — as if salvation is something fragile that we could lose when our faith weakens, our feelings run dry, or our performance falls short.

Not held, but held fast

Jesus says in John 10: "My sheep hear My voice… I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand." It's a double grip: Son and Father. Two hands. No sheep holding the Shepherd — a Shepherd holding the sheep.

> Whoever is in Christ is not kept by the firmness of his grip, but by the firmness of His grip.

Grace is not a trial contract

Paul writes in Romans 8 that nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord — no tribulation, no distress, no death, no life. Salvation is not a trial contract, no subscription that can be canceled monthly. It is a covenant, sealed with the blood of Christ and affirmed by the Holy Spirit, "who is the guarantee of our inheritance" (Ephesians 1:14).

Rest for the restless heart

That is no excuse for lukewarmness. Those who know the Shepherd *want* to follow Him — that is precisely the proof that He holds someone fast. But it *is* the ground for deep peace. You don't have to count every evening whether your faith was strong enough that day. You may rise with the words of Psalm 23: "The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want."

For those who don't yet dare to believe

Perhaps you are reading this and thinking: that's beautiful, but not for me. I have done too much, I doubt too often, my faith is too shaky. Then read again what Jesus says — not about strong sheep, but about sheep who *hear* His voice. It is not the strength of your grip that saves you; it is the strength of His hand that holds you fast. Reach out to Him. Simply pray: Lord Jesus, hold me fast. He never lets that prayer fall to the ground.
