Your Own Sphere of Grace

Wonderfully made

People naturally compare themselves to others. Have you ever caught yourself doing it?

“Oh, she looks just like so-and-so.” “His behaviour is exactly like his father’s.” “Look at her hair.” “He’s too tall.” “She’s too short.”

Or perhaps we’ve compared jobs, houses, cars, clothes, wealth, holidays, or even our phones. (Although I still think I have the best one… my iPhone! 😄)

I know I’ve done it too, more often than I should have. But God never intended us to compare ourselves with one another. He hasn’t just made me unique—He has made every single person unique.

God alone holds the patent on you. “God holds the patent on you. He alone has the rights to the original—you.” He is your Creator. There has never been anyone exactly like you, and there never will be.

We are wonderfully made.

God has given each of us our own sphere of grace—a unique place in His Kingdom where we can love Him, serve Him, and love others as ourselves.

Instead of tearing people down, let’s build them up.

Tell someone they are kind. Tell them they are thoughtful. Tell them they are creative. Tell them they are beautiful. Tell them they are generous. Tell them they are loved.

Every one of us is a gift from God.

So see yourself as the precious gift of life that God created you to be.

“Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly…” Psalm 1:1 (AMPC)

Being yourself isn’t always easy. Social media is especially difficult. It constantly encourages us to compare ourselves with others.

Worldwide there are millions of influencers, and Instagram alone contains millions of sponsored posts every year. There is nothing inherently wrong with advertising or sharing our lives, but there is danger when we constantly feel pressured to buy more, own more, do more, go more, and become more.

If we aren’t careful, comparison slowly steals our contentment.

The Bible warns us to guard our hearts.

Jesus said:

‘ If your right eye serves as a trap to ensnare you or is an occasion for you to stumble and sin, pluck it out and throw it away. It is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be cast into hell (Gehenna). And if your right hand serves as a trap to ensnare you or is an occasion for you to stumble and sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better that you lose one of your members than that your entire body should be cast into hell (Gehenna).’ Matthew 5:29-30 MAT.5.29-30

Of course, Jesus wasn’t telling us to literally remove an eye or cut off a hand. He was using vivid language to show us how seriously we should deal with anything that leads us into sin.

If social media constantly causes you to compare yourself with others…If certain websites tempt you…If endless scrolling steals your time with God… Then perhaps it is time to remove those distractions. Delete the app. Turn off the notifications. Step away for a while. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you replace those habits with something that draws you closer to God. Spend more time in His Word. Spend more time in prayer. Fill your heart with His truth instead of the world’s opinions.

Follow the One Who Never Fails If you’re going to follow someone… Follow Jesus. Billions of people have followed Him throughout history. More importantly, He will never leave you or forsake you. He will never abandon you. He will never lie to you. He will never stop loving you. He is the King of kings. He is your Saviour. He is your Friend. He always hears your prayers and answers according to His perfect wisdom and timing. He is your peace in every storm. Your calm in every wind. Your shelter in the rain. Your light in the darkness. Tell me… Who else can do all of that? No one. Jesus is the answer to every need of the human heart. He is always on time. He is with you twenty-four hours a day. His love for you is deeper than you can imagine. He is worth following..

Never forget: You were never created to be someone else. You were created to be the masterpiece God already sees when He looks at you.
